Camp is an exciting, exhausting, demanding, and rewarding opportunity.  A successful camp counselor is truly committed to providing their campers with a great experience, helping them to grow, building skills, and create relationships.  Great camp counselors are unique in their ability to put the needs of others before their own, and work on behalf of the Camp Santa Maria community. 

Do you have great skills?

Great staff members are nurturing, patient and fun.  They have the ability to make campers feel comfortable in a new environment, help them to make friends and bond with fellow campers and help them build confidence and lifelong skills.  While we have lots of fun and adventurous activities, at YMCA Camp Santa Maria our most important focus is on youth development. 

Are you creative and love developing elaborate games and activities? We strive at Santa Maria to provide an atmosphere where campers can be creative and follow the guideline of “If it is not against the rules, and people are safe, then you can do it”. We are looking for staff who can help guide campers in how to be creative and learn that it is alright to fail at something! At least have some fun! 

Programs like fine Arts, film making, and photography allow campers to express their creativity and to share their work with others.  Camp Santa Maria staff members teach campers technical skills and introduce them to a variety of different art media and skills that will last them a lifetime.  We are looking for staff members who have a passion for art, and training or education in fine arts, film making or photography. 

Adventure programs are an important part of Camp Santa Maria, and require some of our staff members to have a greater level of certification and education.  We are looking for staff members who have education and certification through nationally and internationally recognized organizations such as Red Cross, American Mountain Guide Association, the American Canoe Association, National Outdoor Leadership School and Outward Bound.  An interest in teaching, leading and working with youth is key for all of our staff members. 

Do you have a passion for the outdoors and connecting others to the outdoors? Have you worked at an environmental education program and want to continue inspiring others about the natural world? Then Santa Maria may be the place for you. Our camp is located on over 1000 acres in the Rocky Mountains at over 8000′ in evelvation. We look for staff who can teach about the world in which we live. Come and share your passion for the outdoors with a younger generation.
