At YMCA Camp Santa Maria we strive to create a staff team that offers a balance of creativity, sensitivity, energy, enthusiasm, and a commitment to youth development. Our staff members come to us from around the country with experience and training in outdoor recreation or leadership, education and a diverse background of skills and talents.
Prior to the start of camp, all staff members participate in an intensive training program that covers such topics as age appropriate programming, risk management, emergency procedures, counseling skills, behavior management, homesickness, and co-habitation with wildlife. Staff also get skill training in specific activity areas. In addition, staff members complete Lifeguard, CPR and Wilderness First Aid certifications.
