Welcome to the YMCA Camp Santa Maria Parent Pages. This section is intended for parents, but campers are welcome to explore here too! These pages and links are provided to help you, the parents, get yourself and your child or children ready for an overnight camp experience with us.
Even the best designed website cannot answer all of your questions, so if after exploring our site you still have questions, please contact us at santamaria@ymcabv.org or call us at 303-443-4474 x 4450. Have fun exploring through the information below. These pages and links will update and change from time to time, so come back for another visit.
If you are interested in learning more about how you can prepare your child for their experience here at YMCA Camp Santa Maria, please visit our page on Things To Do Before Camp.
Our camp community functions best when we get feedback from our parents. If you have thoughts on Camp Santa Maria with regards to making things easier for you with paperwork, programming, our social networks, or general feedback please drop us note at 303-443-4474 x 4450 or at santamaria@ymcabv.org
The American Camp Association:
The American Camp Association or ACA has this portion of its website dedicated to camper parents. There is a whole host of articles and access to research on the benefits of camp for children. Camp Santa Maria is a member of the Rocky Mountain Section of the ACA. The ACA is a national organization that helps camps get better. They also run a certification program that Camp Santa Maria goes through every 3 years. It is an in depth process that includes a visit by trained camp professionals who inspect the camp to see if the standards are being met. This is in addition to our state inspection that we get every year.
The Search Institute and the 40 Developmental Assets:
www.search-institute.org/developmental-assets
The Search Institute does cutting edge research on the assets that help children develop and grow. Camp Santa Maria uses the models and research on the Developmental Assests done by the Search Institute in our staff training and program design.
In case you are wanting some “justification” for sending your child to camp, please check out these articles.
